Compounded Prescriptions
Compounded Prescriptions are mixed from their constituent chemicals by a pharmacist or technician because they are not available in commercially prepared formulations. Often, a drug is not produced by a commercial manufacturer unless it can be patented and make money for the drug company. Natural hormone products are an example of of drugs that cannot be patented – we make many different combinations of these hormone products to meet individual patient needs.

Compounded Prescriptions are custom prescriptions, made to prescisely meet the needs of the patient. An example of this would be high blood pressure medication that is commercially available for adults, but must be dissolved and made into a liquid to give to an infant. We also do custom flavoring of medications to suit the patient.

Compounded prescriptions can be capsules, liquids, powders, gels, creams, ointments, suppositories, or injections. To make compounded prescriptions a pharmacy needs special laboratory space, equipment and expertise.

In addition to human medications, we make compounds for household pets if prescribed by a veterinarian.
